Sita sings the blues

Pela primeira vez, estou postando um longa. Na verdade abaixo está só a primeira parte, mas é fácil achar a seqüência. 

Trata-se de um filme totalmente livre para distribuição feito por Nina Paley: pode ser reproduzido de graça, mas ela aceita doações. No filme ela mistura a história dela com uma interpretação pessoal do épico indiano Ramayana. Ela focou a história no relacionamente de Sita e Rama e quis contar a história de um coração partido: o dela, quando o marido quis se separar e o de Sita, que foi rejeitada por Rama no épico hindu. Bem, não vou entrar em detalhes sobre a vida pessoal da autora, o fato é que o tema amor (ou a dor que ele pode trazer) é abordado em todo o mundo e usando diversas formas de expressão. O que ela quis foi fazer uma reinterpretação de outra história com a qual ela se identificou em um momento difícil. 

Ela quis muito incluir no filme as músicas cantadas por Annete Hanshaw e este é o único elemento do filme que não é livre: ela teve que pagar US$50,000 pelos direitos de reproduzir as canções no filme.

O filme foi feito principalmente em flash, mas ela misturou diversos estilos de animação, o que é evidente observando as duas imagens acompanhando este texto. Há um estilo para quando vemos a história dela e outros três para quando se conta a história de Rama e Sita. Talvez leve  alguns minutos  para o espectador se acostumar ao estilo, mas a história é bem contada, divertida e original.

For the first time, I'm not posting a short, but a 81-minute film. Actually what I added below is just the first part of it, because I wanted to post a version with subtitles in portuguese - check the website for a version without subtitles.

This is a free animated movie by Nina Paley: it can be broadcasted for free - but she does accept donations. In the film, she mixes her own story with her personal interpretation of the Indian epic the Ramayana. She focused on the relationship between Sita and Rama and wanted to tell a story of a broken heart: hers, when he husband left her and Sita's, that was rejected by Rama in the Hindu epic. Well, I won't write about the author's personal life, the fact is that the subject "love" (or the pain it can cause) is sung, painted, written, animated, etc all around the world. What she wanted to do was a reinterpretation of another story which she spoke to her at a difficult moment in her life.
She wanted to include songs sung by Annete Hanshaw and this is the only thing in the movie that isn't free: she had to pay US$50,000 for the copyrights.
The film was animated primarily using flash, but she mixed different styles, which is evident in the 2 images that I added to this post. There's a style for when we see her own story and 3 different styles for Rama and Sita's story. Maybe it takes a few minutes to get used to the movie in the beginning, but the story is well told, funny and original.
